Victorian schools receive funding for crucial upkeep

A number of schools in the region will be benefiting from a funding boost for crucial upkeep projects from the Victorian Government.

Cobram Primary School, Cohuna Secondary College, Orrvale Primary School and Wangaratta West Primary School are among 59 schools sharing in over $20 million for 62 maintenance projects under the Planned Maintenance Program.

The PMP tackles high-priority maintenance issues in government schools, zeroing in on essential work such as mending roofs, swapping out windows, applying fresh paint, resurfacing floors and improving pathways.

Education Minister Ben Carroll said the government was constantly evaluating schools to make sure every classroom was safe.

“This program is about ensuring that every Victorian school is kept up to date so that every child can access a high-quality education in a high-quality environment,” he said.

Over the past decade, the government has spent $16.9 billion on school infrastructure, generating more than 26,000 jobs in construction and related industries.
