Kyabram motor enthusiasts were treated to a piece of history with the Victorian Veteran Car Rally taking over the Kyabram area over the weekend in a spectacle of historic mechanically propelled vehicles.
The 29 vehicles, all pre-dating 1919, were displayed across the region, hitting multiple tourist locations and soaking up northern Victoria’s rich history.
Organiser David Boyd said the event was a complete success, and attendees and spectators were impressed with the trip.
“It was fantastic; everybody had a thoroughly good time, and everybody’s been passing very positive comments about it all — so it was very enjoyable,” Mr Boyd said.
The rally of 65 people across 29 classic cars travelled more than 322 kilometres, hitting all hotspots across Kyabram, Tatura, Rochester, Rushworth, Colbinabbin, Girgarre, Murchison and Tongala.
Mr Boyd said the participants were incredibly “impressed” with the Rochester Historical and Pioneer Society and the Tatura Irrigation and Wartime Camps Museum.
“There were things in the museums about areas that people were unaware of. They didn’t know the history of the world around Victoria and the history of the Middle Ages, it was fascinating.
“A lot of work went into the trip, but when you see everyone having such an enjoyable time and appreciating what you’re putting up, it makes everything worthwhile,” he said.
Top class: The Victorian Veteran Car Rally displayed cars of all shapes sizes, and colours over the weekend. This open-top, red vehicle made its way down from Kyabram to Rushworth on Saturday.
