Excitement and opportunity were on the table for students attending Verney Rd School’s Student Pathways Expo.

On Friday, August 18, the Visy Community Centre in Shepparton was lined with exhibitors, including Shepparton Access, ConnectGV and GOTAFE, showcasing their post-schooling opportunities for Year 12 students.

Verney Rd assistant principal Carolyn West said this was the first time the school had done something of this calibre.

“Usually, for our Year 12 students who are transitioning from school, we have an information night where a handful of providers would come speak and parents would sit and listen,” Ms West said.

“That was a bit overwhelming for families — they weren’t able to ask questions that were pertinent to their child.

“By doing this, it ... helps our Year 12 students find the best pathway that suits them and is going to meet their needs.”

Ms West said the expo wasn’t just for their Verney Rd students either.

The invitation was extended to schools across the region, including Euroa and Numurkah.

“We’re trying to broaden it out to all schools because we’re all in the same boat,” she said.

“By building more of a partnership with schools around supporting all our kids in terms of their pathways it’s a win-win for everybody.”
