Locating and mapping underground services using non-destructive digging (NDD).
Utility relocation
Before permanent works begin within the rail corridor, some overhead power connections need to be relocated. This will involve:
- Installing a new service pit, meter panel and pole in Mackellar St.
- Connecting cables from the new pit to the station and communications building.
- Removing redundant cables and poles within the station precinct and rail corridor.
- AusNet will perform some underground service works within Mackellar Street to enable the new connections.
Preparation for establishment of site compound
A site compound, where worker facilities, plant and material will be located, will be established within the railway precinct at Hannah St, Benalla.
In preparation, there will be:
- Installation of rail delineation and compound fencing.
- Water and sewer connection works.
- Approved vegetation removal.
- Building and compressing a hardstand to provide a firm and solid surface.
What the public can expect
- Works from 7am-6pm Monday to Friday and 7am-1pm on Saturdays.
- Extended hours of work 7am-7pm on Saturday and Sunday March 22 and 23.
- Traffic Management will be required in some locations where works are occurring close to roads. Please observe all traffic management instructions and signage.
- Reduced speed limits of 40km/h near works.
- Nearby residents may hear some noise during this time and can expect some additional construction workers and vehicles in the area.
Machinery used
Non-destructive digging truck, excavators, cranes, elevated work platforms, trucks and support vehicles.
Cancellation of works
Works can sometimes be cancelled at short notice depending on weather and other factors. Should this occur, works will be rescheduled.
