For three years, the Stihl Shop in Seymour has been offering an unexpected service alongside its traditional power tools and lawn equipment: mobility scooters.
Owner Courtney Carroll revealed the foray into the market began with servicing and battery replacements.
“We thought why not stock them as well, so we just keep a small range in stock,” she said.
“We noticed no-one else had scooters in Seymour.”
The shop provides thorough safety checks and maintenance for the scooters, including battery testing and necessary repairs.
“We do safety checks on them, go over the whole scooter, fix what is needed and test batteries, etc,” Ms Carroll said.
She said customers were often taken aback when they spotted mobility scooters among the sit-on lawn mowers and chainsaws.
“Generally they just say, ‘we didn't know you sold scooters’, because of course, you wouldn't think a mower shop sells scooters,” she said.
While the Stihl Shop stocks Freedom Mobility Scooters, it maintains a limited inventory due to space constraints.
At present, three units are available and on display in the shop.
This unique offering fills a gap in the local market, giving Seymour residents easy access to mobility scooters and related services.
