The under-13s netball count started off the night, with the first bit of excitement for the Deniliquin Rovers with Sienna Elphick finishing third overall with an impressive impressive 25 votes.
The Rovers’ Ruby Cowley also ended with a 7th place finish, on 20 votes.
Next on the agenda was the fourths football vote count.
After a long and suspenseful count, the Deniliquin Rovers were once again delighted as Baxter Cowley was deemed the runner-up Best and Fairest for the 2022 season, just 2 votes behind first place.
Baxter is a tall and limber midfielder, and put together an extraordinary season campaign.
It has been highlighted by win-after-win for his team, as well a stack of best on ground performances.
Baxter is the co-captain and has not only shown a great set of skills, but also highly commendable leadership among his peers.
Blighty Football Club’s Cobi Johnson also deserves a mention after being recognised for an amazing season. He placed 9th with a highly respectable 19 votes.
In the under-15s netball count, the Rovers again starred with promising young netballer Hazel Glowrey ending with a 5th place position on 21 votes.
All three local clubs were highlighted in the under-17s netball count, with Rovers’ Makayla Finn claiming third place with an astounding 25 votes.
Fellow Rover Elena Mulham polled 8th with a total of 14 votes, and 9th was a three-way tie between players from local clubs.
Blighty’s Erica Nicholls and Mathoura’s deadly duo of Remi Cathcart and Andie Lindberg all polled 12 votes to share the honours.
The final count of the night was in the thirds, where one of Deniliquin’s favourite footballing prodigies Cameron Wills racked up an impressive number of votes to be runner-up Best and Fairest, just 2 votes behind the winner.
Cameron is an extremely hard worker and excellent clubman. He is a two-way running midfielder with sharp hands and immense tackling pressure, which forces opponents to make errors even in the most critical moments.
Having already played a few games in seniors for Deniliquin Rovers, Cameron is only expected to get better with age.
