Co-Organisers Dallice Robins and June Lavis were extremely happy with how the event transpired last Sunday with great support by the community
“As warm as it was there was still a great turn out and weather wise it wouldn’t have mattered as we had such a great day,” Ms Robins said.
“Over 100 people, not including children, of all abilities took part. It was wonderful to see so many families taking part and even someone on a mobility scooter decided to join in which we absolutely loved to see.
“Some of the Mulwala football players in their gear took part as well as the girls from CMCU and Member for Albury Justin Clancy was also in attendance with his family.
“Our President Chris Seabridge opened the event and thanked those who were in attendance as well as all of our sponsors.
“We are extremely pleased with how the event went and very much looking forward to running it again next year,” Ms Lavis added.
“We are proud to announce that we raised over $3000 with a lot of donations also coming in from people who couldn’t be there.
“The community assistance was gratifying and everyone was so friendly. It just had a nice feel about it.
“We thank our sponsors greatly as without them we couldn’t have held the event and had as much success as we did so thank you.
“After the turn out we had this year we are hoping the event just gets bigger and better each year.”
All proceeds from the day will go towards the Inner Wheel Australia Foundation Trust for research that has seen the lives of many being saved by this research, especially children.
Many blood disorders including Leukaemia, auto immune diseases, cystic fibrosis, heart disease and stroke have also benefited from this stem cell research.
Mulwala Progress Association President Robert Purtle OAM, who was one of the approximate 100 people who took part in the walk, described the event as fantastic.
“There was so much support for the Inner Wheel’s event because of the cause
“The walk was well supported by Mulwala Football Netball Club and a lot of individuals.
“I was very privileged to be a part of this wonderful cause and it was great to see Member for Albury Justin Clancy participate.
“This cause is very close to Justin’s heart as his family has been affected.
Diabetes nurse practitioner and midwife as well as convenor of T1PS (Type 1 Peer Support) for people with type one diabetes Janet Lagstrom also thanked the Inner Wheel Club for their assistance in cord blood research.
“After working in midwifery, I realise the connection with stem cell research (via cord blood) and working with people living with diabetes for over 30 years,” Ms Lagstrom said.
“I understand the value of cord blood research to help find a cure for diabetes.
“T1PS has a membership of over 50 people and we all sincerely thank the Inner Wheel for their amazing support.”
