Marty Banning has been drumming since he was four, but he’s about to take it to a new level to help a family in need.

Mr Banning will drum for 12 hours straight as part of a fundraiser live stream for Anita and Bhavesh Patel, after Mr Patel suffered horrific injuries as a result of a tractor rollover earlier this year.
Mr Banning’s partner, Ami Pathak, said the family, which like her is part of the Gujarati community, had reached out for help, with permanent disabilities likely to severely limit how much Mr Patel can work.
“That's why we come up with the idea, at least we can have some fun and bring that family back up and running. That's the utmost priority for us at the moment,” Ms Pathak said.
“This could be a quite a long-term issue for them. So it's really important to try and get them as much security as we can.”
She said while the support had been strong, they wanted far more people to get involved.
Why drumming?
Mr Banning said it was what he knew, and he had several connections in Shepparton and more in Melbourne whom he was hoping to encourage to join the live stream, which will be held from 9am to 9pm on Saturday, June 25.
"Someone from Ami’s community was going through a really, really tough time and it’s what I’m good at, so I wanted to help,“ he said.
“It’s a bit daunting. I've got pretty good stamina drumming for as long as I have, but yeah, 12 hours straight is a lot.
“I've done 15 hours in a single day but not in a solid chunk, you know, like maybe three gigs of five hours for a musical or something like that.”
Mr Banning encouraged anyone who wanted to appear on the live stream to call 0407 829 771, and also encouraged people to donate to and share the fundraiser, which can be found on Facebook by searching ‘Marty’s Drum Marathon for Anita and Bhavesh’.
