Triathlon triumphs over scorching heat!

Hot weather has disrupted Deniliquin Triathlon and Canoe Club, although it had a good attendance in more pleasant conditions last Tuesday.

The previous week the temperature soared to 40°C, keeping most participants at home. And it is looking at another hot event this evening.

Spokesperson Sue Mulligan said there were more than 20 participants and four volunteers last week. The temperature was ideal, however the bike leg posed a bit of a challenge due to the wind.

“Our numbers have been boosted by families attending. The age range is from 8 to 62 so it really is a sport for all ages and abilities,” she said.

This is particularly pleasing considering all of the preseason commitments of locals for sports like football, netball and soccer, more often than not falling on either a Tuesday or Thursday.

The Deniliquin Triathlon and Canoe Club is an ideal way to get fit and be able to do it socially as we approach the winter sports season.

“We have had some new members sign up since Christmas and given our season doesn't finish until the last Tuesday before Easter there is plenty of time for others to join and perhaps get in some pre-season training for their winter sports,” Mulligan said.

The club continues to train every Tuesday at 6pm from McLean Beach, and will be doing so until the last Tuesday before Easter.
