Just 10 years after the first Melbourne Cup was run, some horse-mad Riverina entrepreneurs decided to start a race club of their own and so the famous Tocumwal Race Club was born.
They created a bit of history 150 years ago in the middle of a paddock and had no idea that their little horse race would continue for another 149 years and make it into the record books as one of those country quirks that keeps on keeping on.
Tocumwal Race Club will celebrate its 150th Anniversary with the running of the fabulous Tocumwal Cup meeting on Saturday, April 11 on a beautiful course which complements Tocumwal’s love of all sports.
Leading up to this historic meeting the Tocumwal Race Club Committee are celebrating the event by holding a Gala Ball at the War Memorial Hall on Saturday, March 14.
They are extremely excited to have secured the Kapooka Rock Band.
The tickets will be available from Rob Crow Real Estate at $50 a head.
The committee is hoping for a strong support from local and interstate patron for what will be a fabulous night to celebrate a milestone in Tocumwal’s history.
