The GAP aims to find loving homes for retired greyhounds that either no longer race or didn’t quite make it to the track.
Created over 26 years ago, the GAP is a world leader in greyhound rehoming and will have more than 50 greyhounds up for adoption at the event in Seymour.
All greyhounds up for adoption have undergone thorough temperament assessments to ensure they are safe around small dogs and to be un-muzzled in public. All greyhounds adopted from the GAP are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and health checked.
Greyhound Clubs Victoria chief executive Brett Jones said the work done by the GAP added to the industry’s efforts in ensuring greyhounds were cared for after they left the racetrack.
“When the greyhounds are under our care and supervision, we strive to ensure that they receive the best facilities, medical assistance as well as a loving environment,” he said.
“With GAP, we ensure the greyhounds find a loving home and a pet-parent willing to extend the same care and affection towards these dogs, who will make wonderful pets.”
In good news for any potential new owner, this weekend all fees have been waived.
And there will be experts on hand to answer any queries about the breed or any particular “paw” friend anyone wants to take home.
Among the greyhounds featured will be Koko, a friendly, affectionate, confident dog who is four years old. She loves people and is super friendly.
The adoption event will be held at 298 Goulburn Valley Hwy, Seymour, and will be open from 2pm to 6pm on Friday, January 20 and from 10am to 3pm on January 21 and 22.
