Greater Shepparton’s Health and Wellbeing Event on Sunday, September 18 is a day dedicated to showcasing the many faces of health in the region.
For Shepparton Boxing Gym owner Daniel Cleave and Nemesis Strength and Conditioning owner Tareke Le Lievre, health is taken with a holistic approach.
Along with @Pilates owner Russell Jarrett, the three men will discuss their journeys and takes on health as panellists for the upcoming event’s ‘Thrash It Out’ session.
“Physical and mental health go in line together,” Mr Cleave said.
"Exercise is a good release, if you have problems at home or whatever else, you go to the gym and you switch off, and then it's just a better outlook on life.
“If I didn’t have boxing, I’d hate to think of where I could be.”
Mr Le Lievre agreed. He said especially for men in his gym, it was a place they “take their cape off” and used as an outlet.
While their gyms are known for high-intensity workouts, both men equally value making their working environments a safe and comfortable place for gym-goers.
“At my gym, we don’t have mirrors,” Mr Le Lievre said.
“Not that it was our plan originally, we just don’t have that because there's nothing that you need to be looking at yourself for, that’s why I’m there.
“I think that helps a lot people who might have body image issues and like I said before, it's people's escape so there's no expectation on people's performance.”
Mr Cleave said he had seen the transformation exercise could make in peoples’ lives, and not just physically.
“Sometimes it isn’t even about the workout, it's about the community people have got within the gym,” Mr Cleave said.
“It’s sort of like an escape ... sometimes they come in just to socialise.”
The discussion will be lead by Australian television host Lola Berry in an open conversation style, taking place at the Shepparton Showgrounds on September 18.
