Shepparton's Lyle and Dana Sinclair will take part in the annual Cancer Council Australia fundraiser called 'The Shitbox Rally', which kicks off on October 14.
The duo will be travelling from Mackay in Queensland to Darwin in the Northern Territory.
All the event cars must be worth less than $1000.
The couple will take on the trip with an AU Ford Falcon, during what will be their first time tackling the rally.
"It is our first time doing it and we wanted to do it, it came through having a chat with friends over a beer which one of our friends said ‘you must do the Shitbox Rally’ and we thought ‘oh we must get into this’," Mrs Sinclair said.
The keen campers have been touched by cancer, with Lyle's mother passing away 25 years ago and his brother passing away 15 years ago, while Dana's uncle passed away of cancer only a month ago.
"Everyone is affected by cancer and understands the cause, but we are doing it because of the love of the outback," she said.
She said it was the most significant specific fundraiser for cancer research.
"Cancer impacts everyone, and I think well, it’s a fundraiser raising awareness for the cancer research and it is essential," she said.
