The half-million dollar Tatura Museum extension began this week, and is expected to be completed by mid year, Greater Shepparton City Council advises.
Council Neighbourhoods manager Amanda Tingay said the works would provide much-needed improvements to the 30-year-old museum.
‘‘The museum will undergo an upgrade to the facilities including a circa 240 square-metre extension which will help provide more space for exhibiting, storage and rotation of the collection and greater preservation,’’ Ms Tingay said.
‘‘We are really excited about the possibilities the upgrades will allow and are looking forward to the end results.’’
A $450000 lump sum contract for the construction of the Tatura Museum extension was awarded under the delegated authority of the council’s chief executive officer, according to a report to a council meeting held this week.
More than $400000 was allocated to the project in the current financial year’s council budget.
Council advises the works contractor will begin with site clearance and demolition of redundant concrete hard stands in the coming week.
Creation of the concrete wall panels, excavation and placement of concrete footings and steel work will follow this in March and continue through to April.
The council advises residents and commuters to be alert to changed traffic conditions, and requests signage is observed and extra care taken when commuting in the area.
