It was a perfect autumn day for golf, but most players struggled to post a good score.
Certainly no-one came close to the 53 points scored by the inaugural winner of this trophy many years ago.
Bruce Brown had the best round of the day, winning with 38 points.
He has been in solid form over recent rounds and looks to once again be a threat to add a second club championship to his resumé after a period in the doldrums after his first title.
He will have one shot less to play with when he next hits the course.
Heading the ball competition was Bill Bray with 36 points and he was joined by Gary Eden with 34 points on a countback from Tony Borrelli.
Nearest the pins were won by Bruce Brown on the ninth, Greg Hall on the jackpot 12th and James Campbell on the 14th.
The chook shed challenge was a tie, so will jackpot to this Saturday.
The final round of the twilight competition for this season was played last Thursday evening.
John Sullivan played less than half of the rounds, but managed three wins, including this week, and a runner-up from his nine rounds, which was an excellent return.
His score on Thursday was 49-14.5-34.5.
Russell Speed was the runner-up with 50-13.5-36.5.
Andrew Wood won a ball for his 37 on a countback from Tash Doherty and Jeff Parry.
Jeff has probably set some kind of record after having eight putts on the ninth over his past two rounds, so his four on Thursday proved costly.
Woody won least putts with 13, while Peter Hayward took the jackpot on the ninth and Craig Doherty was closest on the 14th.
The two-point cut was 38.
Bill Bray was the overall winner of the twilight season with 38 points, two ahead of runner-up Simon Doherty.
Craig Doherty was a few points further back in third place.
The three leaders’ handicaps seemed to have reduced over the season to the point where they were unable to break into the two-point zone in the latter rounds.
The club would like to thank the sponsors of our twilight competition which has attracted increased interest this season.
We are indebted to Fitzgerald’s Farm Fresh Meats, Bennett’s Intersport and Ron Christou for their long-time support of the event.
This Saturday is opening day and is a midday assembly for a 12.30pm shotgun start and the event is four-ball best-ball stableford.
The new syllabus is now out and hopefully we get through the year without having it continually messed around like last year.
