In a vital engine room battle with Magpies Emily Taverna, Charlotte Long and Alex Daly, the young Eagle more than held her own, her creativity and safe hands with the ball the perfect tonic from the problems the opposition wanted to cause.
While many Eagles had spread their wings considerably, Edwards pocketed the Jodie Sefton best-on-court medal for her hand in the two-goal win.
“It’s such a surreal moment, being the underdogs we were a bit surprised,” Edwards said post-game.
“But I suppose that is what grand finals are all about. We were really excited from the get-go, we really needed a good first quarter and we really produced that.”
With the scores tied at quarter-time, Edwards knew her side had ticked its first major box — but against a champion team, winning takes much more than that.
“It’s always such a tough match playing Moama, it’s such a credit to their ability,” she said.
“I’m a bit lost for words really, but credit to them, they’re an amazing team.
“I honestly really wasn’t expecting (the medal), I was surprised and I thought everyone on our team played an even amount. I suppose it just really topped it off.”
Winning is one thing, the talent they call '‘Hollywood'’ said, but doing it with a ripper bunch of teammates makes the victory UDLs even sweeter.
“It’s been awesome, right throughout the A/B squad,” she said.
“Unfortunately B-grade didn’t get in, but their support and ongoing commitment to us has really helped us to this spot today.”
