The main message encourages attendees to travel by taxi, rideshare, shuttle buses or with a designated driver if they have been drinking.
“If you plan on having a drink at the races, taking a taxi, train, bus or lift home is your best bet,” Victorian roads and road safety minister Melissa Horne said.
TAC representatives will bring the campaign to the Echuca Cup on Sunday, March 9, complementing social media and race book advertising.
Attendees can enter a prize draw with $500 fuel vouchers while learning about the risks of drink-driving.
TAC acting chief executive Sam Cockfield said the organisation and CRV are working together to provide transportation at country cups.
“We’re working closely with Country Racing Victoria to ensure there are enough safe transport options available for racegoers across the state,” she said.
For the Echuca Cup, there will be free shuttle buses from opposite the Echuca Hotel and Caledonian Hotel, as well as from the Border Inn and Moama Bowling Club from 11am to 6pm.
Buses from caravan parks, as well as to Bendigo and Shepparton will also be available by contacting Echuca Racing Club on 03 5482 2487 or via echraces@countryracing.com.au
Attendees are encouraged to organise their transport plans so they can end the day safely.
“It is vital for all racegoers to plan ahead not only for the event itself but also for their transportation needs,” CRV chairman Chas Armytage said.
“CRV and country clubs remain committed to working with the TAC to promote this important educational message.”
