The sunflowers were bright, but the smiles on people’s faces were even brighter, as about 500 people visited a Shepparton sunflower crop on Sunday.

The farm’s owners opened the gates to the public, allowing visitors to take photos among the sunflowers and take home some of the bright flowers.
It was the second weekend the sunflower crop on Benalla Rd, Shepparton, had been open to visitors.
Organisers estimated about 500 people visited across the two days of the previous weekend as well.
Justin Davies and his father Chris Davies, sowed about 200,000 sunflowers seeds on what had been an unused section of Chris’ farm.
While not all of those seeds germinated, there was still plenty of sunflowers for people to marvel at as they posed for the perfect Instagram picture.
This is the first time they had planted sunflowers at the property and Justin said they wanted to brighten up the place.
“We did it more as a visual thing for our kids to see and people can drive past and see them,” he said.
“We’re lucky enough we’ve got a farm to play with.
“It’s nice for other people to spend a bit of time with them (the sunflowers) too.”
From here, he is looking to harvest the dry sunflower heads.
Justin said the family enjoyed being able to open the crop to visitors and hoped to do it again next year, possibly over three weekends next time.
“It’s been really enjoyable,” he said.
“We’ll definitely do it next year. We had a bit of fun.”
