Organised by the Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell, the free, fun but competitive, event will see local, regional and metro performers doing what they do best throughout Sydney St in the town’s centre.
There will be three performance age categories, ages 5 to 12, 13 to 18, and adult/open.
The event is backed by the support of local and regional schools, and is recognised by attendees as an opportunity for younger artists to grow and expand their performances.
Previous years have seen performances from gum leaf musician Uncle Herb Patten, The Ballet Busker, Japanese Taiku drummers and Samurai dancers RIN PA & A.YA, belly dancers, whip crackers, an elderly citizen’s ukulele group, and many more.
Young and emerging, and rural and regional artists are welcomed to kick-start their careers in Kilmore.
In 2019, the Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell partnered with the Australian National Busking Championships, the umbrella group for eight regional championships across the country.
As a result of this, winners of the Kilmore event will have the opportunity to compete in the regional grand final, held in Cooma, NSW, and, from there, they might have a performance opportunity at the Gympie Music Muster in Queensland.
The not-for-profit event attracts visitors to Kilmore, promoting the historic precinct, while providing talented performers valuable opportunities.
Professional judges have been employed to assess the success of each performance.
With cost-of-living pressures, the event relies on the goodwill and support of local businesses and attendees to ensure its success.
The Kilmore Regional Busking Championships of 2025 will be held from 9.30am to 3pm on Saturday, April 12.
