Construction in Powell Street is progressing in a timely manner, and it won’t look like the Mad Hatter’s Tea-Party when the curtain finally goes up!
Luke Park and Powell Street will be open for business as usual, but as in previous years no cars will be allowed into Powell Street that night.
Starting at 6pm, hot food, and drinks, will be available, as well as glow sticks.
One stipulation is that payment for any purchases be by cash please – no EFTPOS is available.
Usual festivities will include the popular fireworks display later in the evening.

Here is a nice story for the start of a new year, which should help us believe that good things do happen.
A brother of our own John Kocks, Bill Kocks, who now lives in Hillston, was on a bit of a road trip down this way to catch up with remaining family, and was heading homewards up the Newell last week.
As he got closer to home he discovered to his dismay that a blue Esky had escaped from the back of a trailer he was towing.
It was full of all sorts of things, but the thing causing Bill most grief was the loss of a small iPad which held photographs of family and special occasions.
His partner convinced Bill to re-trace his route, which they did together the next day.
Janet drove while Bill looked either side of the highway.
Bill tried to contact our local police in case the Esky might have been handed in, but couldn’t raise anyone locally.
So he went to some Jerilderie friends and asked if they would pass on a message, with details, to the police.
At this point Bill was prepared to go home, but Janet suggested going a little further, just in case.
They were almost back to Finley when Bill saw a familiar blue Esky sitting upright beside the highway, with the white lid visible on the other side of the road.
On inspection everything was still inside the still-in-one-piece Esky!
They could hardly believe their luck, and are so grateful to the good samaritan/s who must have discovered the Esky and placed it where it would be found.
Much relieved, Bill and Janet may have gone home to buy a lottery ticket!

It is pleasing to report that our stalwart Lions Club member, Richard Wright, is back home after his run in with a dog while delivering Lions calendars before Christmas.
The altercation left him with a serious injury to his leg.
We hope Richard’s recovery is swift and complete.
Perhaps he has had more farewells than Dame Nellie Melba!

Parishioners and friends of St Joseph’s Catholic Church held an informal ‘cuppa’ after the 10.30 Mass on Sunday, to farewell Father Cyprian Onuorah.
The weather gods were kind, and people were able to mingle under the shade of the school COLA beside the church, and share stories and delicious refreshments.
A formal farewell was made inside the church at the end of Mass, at which point a card and gift were presented to Father Cyprian.
It was in gratitude for his short, but much appreciated tenure in this parish, before he moves to Mulwala.
