Mr Atkin is a huge figure in the small town community. He is part of the Violet Town Action Group and has been instrumental in helping to secure grant funding for the Southern Aurora Committee, crime prevention programs and Violet Town Recreation Reserve.
Mr Aktin is also a member of the Warrenbayne/Boho Landcare group.
Young Citizen of the Year was awarded to Strathbogie's Tom Hamilton for his participation in local activities, including volunteering with the Strathbogie CFA.
Junior Citizen of the Year went to Maddy Boddington from Nagambie.
Winning the the Community Organisation of the Year was the Violet Town Boomerang Bags and COVID-19 Mask Makers.
For the past three years, the sewers have been meeting weekly at Community House, where the bags are created as a replacement for plastic bags.
Last year the volunteers made masks and distributed them across town when face coverings were enforced as a way to slow the spread of COVID-19.
