Mr Strassman, who has toured for 30 years and has performed in regional areas for decades, said it would be nice to give people a break from dealing with floods to have a laugh at some puppets.
“I’m very sympathetic to the plight of flood and disaster victims as I know how hard it is to recover from losing your home and belongings, not to mention the clean up,” he said.
“A few years back, our show was cancelled in Wagga Wagga due to flooding and I was so blessed to be able to give a free show at the evacuation centre and it was my pleasure to bring laughs to those who need it most.”
The American puppeteer will bring crowd favourites Ted E. Bear and Chuck Wood on tour — although he said they would “travel in their suitcases as they talk too much whilst driving long distances”.
Mr Strassman said alongside Chuck and Ted E., Grandpa Fred, Buttons the clown and Kevin the alien would also appear on stage.
“I love travelling the Australian countryside,’’ he said.
“It’s so beautiful and feels like home because I’ve been coming here for over 30 years, having camped all over Victoria, and, I’ve even fished the Goulburn River.
“I love performing for you Aussies.
“What makes you laugh, makes me laugh and vice versa.
“We have the same funny bone so it’s a perfect match.
“I am blessed to be a grown man who plays with dolls for a living.”
Mr Strassman will perform on Wednesday, November 9, at Riverlinks WestSide from 7pm. See riverlinksvenues.com.au/whats-on/event-details/!/calendar/event/david-strassman-the-chocolate-diet for ticket details.
