Stirring up support for dementia research

The staff and residents set out to raise $500 for their cause, but in the end achieved a huge $1256.

Menarock employee and the organiser of the event Kylie Kirkpatrick said she wanted to keep the target low because many families are finding it tough at the moment.

“We only set our target at $500 because we didn't want to do anything too big, obviously, knowing that times are tough for everyone,” she said.

Ms Kirkpatrick said the cause was close to home for the residents and staff.

“Most of the residents in here all suffer from dementia, so it's a cause that’s close to all of us,” she said.

“It’s such an awful disease, so if any little amount of money can help research to find some sort of cure, we’re happy to do it.”

The morning tea was provided by the facility, including slices that were generously donated by Moama Bakery.

Although some donations were made during the morning tea, most of the funds were raised online or through donation boxes placed around the facility.

Menarock directors Fiona van den Berg and Andrew Seamer also pledged to match the number of donations and gave $603 at the end of the day.

The donation link remains active, and contributions continue to come in even after the fundraiser's official end date.
