Years 5 and 6 students at Mooroopna's St Mary's Primary School celebrated the grand final win early last week, by cheering up their Richmond-supporter parish priest, Monsignor Peter Jeffrey.
Mons Jeffery has been unable to deliver his usual mass because of COVID-19 restrictions.
So Years 5 and 6 leader Geenah Loughran came up with a plan to welcome him back.
“In preparation for the grand final this week, students in the 5/6 area have made Richmond buntings to present to Monsignor Peter Jeffrey,” Ms Loughran said.
“Mons is a passionate Richmond supporter and we wanted to cheer him up as he has not been able to celebrate masses and not been able to come over to the classrooms due to COVID-19.”
Mons Jeffrey was overjoyed with the turn-out.
“I'm looking forward to delivering in-classroom masses once again, and I hope it's a close game on the weekend,” Mons Jeffrey said.
Year 6 student Lincoln Neil said he had missed Mons Jeffrey's normal masses, including Mother's Day mass.
“Seeing Mons doing what he does really makes me happy,” Lincoln said.
