The awards allow residents to reflect on the local heroes who have contributed over the year in important ways to the community.
Community members can choose to nominate people in three categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Group of the Year.
According to Echuca Rotary secretary Teresa Carlson, there has been a lack of nominations so far.
“I only have three nominations for Citizen of the Year but I don’t have any for the Young Citizen of the Year and Community Group of the Year,” she said.
“I think it will be really sad if we don’t get some nominations because I know there’s people out there in our community and young people that do good in our community.”
Ms Carlson added that they were on the lookout for those active in the community.
“Their accolades don’t need to be way over the top, we are looking for someone who is good in our community and at the work that they’ve done.”
To be considered for the awards, individuals must have made significant community contributions and demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing the welfare and wellbeing of others.
Any achievements across fields such as academic, sporting, personal, cultural, environmental and/or social responsibility will also be taken into consideration.
Citizen of the year must be 25 years or older and Young Citizen of the year must be 24 years or younger at the time of the awards ceremony on Sunday, January 26.
The deadline for nominations was originally set for Sunday, December 1 but has been extended until Monday, January 6.
