Three weeks out from the event, Moama Water Sports Club has reluctantly confirmed iconic Echuca-Moama ski race the Southern 80 will be postponed.
Following consultation with emergency services, both Victoria and NSW authorities recommended the event be postponed.
Due to emergency resources being stretched thin with the growing Omicron outbreak, the emergency services agencies said they would currently be too short-staffed to support the February 11 to 13 event.
In a Facebook post organisers said a new date had not yet been set, but discussions with Ski Racing Australia were under way, working towards a date in April to be confirmed in coming days.
All pre-purchased tickets for entries and spectators will carry forward for use once the new date is announced.
“We wish to thank our competitors, sponsors, spectators, community groups and the towns of Echuca/Moama in advance for supporting us getting our race back on the water and ask for their support of the Southern 80 and the difficult decision we have been forced to make,” the Facebook post read.
