Owner Nathan May said the generous act was “completely random and out of the blue”.
“She was seen purchasing a scooter and helmet at the store as a Christmas present through lay-by, when another customer overheard the transaction,” Mr May said.
“He came up to buy something for himself after she left the store, and he offered to completely pay off her purchase.
“It was great to see, it was the first time I’d seen it, but hopefully it won’t be the last.”
The generous act totalled around $350, and after the shopper left the store Mr May had the pleasure of calling the woman to tell her the good news.
While both the mystery shopper and recipient chose to remain anonymous, Mr May assured the reaction to the Christmas surprise was met with immense gratitude.
“The mother was overwhelmed, she was ecstatic that someone would do a gesture of that size,” he said.
“It certainly made her day.
“It’s really great to see the local community supporting one another.”
The Christmas act of giving follows a string of others in the community, with an anonymous donor giving $1000 to pay off lay-bys at local store, Dotz for Kids, and not too far away in Bendigo, a couple paid off 82 Christmas lay-bys at a local toy store.
