The Shepparton product will join Carlton with pick 13 in the upcoming draft after the Blues snared the Richmond VFLW talent last week as part of the AFLW Academy bidding process.
It means Egan, 19, will join former Euroa netballers Sarah and Jess Hosking at Ikon Park as she looks to make her mark in navy blue.
“Grace has shown a lot in her first full year of VFLW football, she has a great work ethic and went head-to-head with AFLW opponents, winning her fair share of contests,” Carlton's general manager of women's football Ash Brown said.
“She couldn’t be more deserving of her chance at the highest level.
“We are really looking forward to Grace joining the club on October 22 with our other draftees.”
Egan averaged 13 disposals, five handball receives and three tackles across her 11 VFLW games this season, improving the entire time.
She will now have the chance to showcase her skills on the biggest stage.
“So excited to be on board with the Blues for the 2020 AFLW season,” Egan said in a post to Facebook.
“A huge thank you to (Richmond) for giving me an opportunity for a second chance after missing out on last year's draft, I couldn’t thank them enough.
“But I am happy to start my AFL journey at the Carlton Football Club and get started.
“To my beautiful family and friends thank you for your support day in and out.
“The endless car rides back and forth on the highway to watch me and visit me, I love you so much.”
Egan was almost speechless when she received the call from Carlton coach Daniel Harford and list manager Wayne Siekman to tell her she would be drafted to the club.
“Thank you so much,” she said in a Carlton Media video.
“I can't wait.”
It came after Richmond did not match the bid for Egan at pick 13, paving the way for her to become a Blue.
“We've been very impressed with you all year,” Siekman said.
“Obviously we put in a pretty high bid because we really wanted you at this football club and for Richmond not to match it is a great result for us.”
