Egan admitted it felt like she was always travelling last year as her and team mate Sophie Damon frequently made the 400km round trip to the Tigers’ training sessions and games.
However, this year she will gain elite level training and conditioning from her new base in Melbourne through not only the Tigers’ football program, but also the Richmond Institute of Sports Leadership (RISL) where she is a new student.
Egan, 18, said the RISL program that she was exposed to through her Richmond involvement, naturally jumped out to her.
‘‘I decided it was something that suited me really well and that I would enjoy. I want a future in sport and am really excited about being able to make use of all the facilities so regularly,’’ she said.
Through RISL, Egan, who is a Year 12 graduate will gain a dual Diploma of Sport Development and Leadership Management in conjunction with Swinburne University.
The former Murray Bushranger will be exposed to industry experts with four-time Winter Olympian Lydia Lassila and world champion Australian Diamonds head coach Lisa Alexander among the course’s module leaders.
Egan will also be mentored by another familiar Goulburn Valley League face — her new housemate, current Tiger and former Collingwood AFLW player and Mansfield netball coach Lauren Tesoriero, who has taken the budding talent under her wing.
‘‘Richmond has been amazing, they do everything for all us girls and provide us with so much support,’’ she said.
‘‘We are so lucky to have so many great people and leaders around us helping us all to get better.’’
Another massive supporter of Egan is her father, Leigh, who is a world champion BMX rider and a member of the Australian BMX Hall of Fame.
‘‘Dad’s so great and is always giving me advice, we always talk about footy and he has helped so much along the way,’’ she said.
‘‘He knows what it’s like (high level sport) and is so supportive of me.’’
Egan’s goal firmly remains to be drafted to the AFLW, a feat she says would be extra special if it was to Richmond.
