From February 2 to 8, over 120 landmarks across Australia and New Zealand will be lighting up to raise awareness about tube feeding and unite the community.
Tube feeding, or enteral nutrition, provides essential nourishment when someone can’t eat or drink normally or get enough nutrients. There are different types of feeding tubes that deliver nutrition directly into the stomach or small intestine.
The annual event is hosted by ausEE, Australia’s peak national support and patient advocacy organisation for eosinophilic diseases, as some of these conditions are among the many where people may need a feeding tube.
ausEE chief executive Sarah Gray is encouraging the community to get involved by visiting the participating landmarks and taking a photo.
“We’ve had an overwhelming response to our #FTAWLightUp campaign and are excited to see so many landmarks, buildings and bridges showing their support for people with feeding tubes,” she said.
“They are shining purple and blue, as purple is a common colour of feeding tube supplies and blue represents what flows through the tube, be it blended foods, breastmilk, formula or water.”
In Shepparton, Riverlinks Eastbank, Monash Park and Victoria Park Lake will be lighting up, alongside the Mooroopna Water Tower.
