Shepparton Theatre Arts Group is taking the play and running with it, but before staging the October performance, they need bodies.
Director Dale Roberts said the team had been working hard since April, however some new, returning or other interested people are needed.
“We want this production team to be just that – a team,” she said.
“That’s our number one priority, but we also can see a great opening here for new people to join the company and gain experience while working with the main team.
“You might like building a set, painting a wall, ushering the audience, collecting props and costumes or any number of little tasks.”
An information session will take place next week for those interested, the only criteria is a positive attitude and “a bit of oomph”.
STAG will welcome audiences back to the Blackbox Theatre with the intimate performance, Ms Roberts said it was “the perfect antidote” to the current societal climate.
“Steel Magnolias captures the relationships we all need to help us through difficult times in our lives,” she said.
“It celebrates friendships, quirkiness, acceptance, and while the story is heart-wrenchingly sad, the play is also very, very funny ― the characters are just so well-written.”
In an ode to the Steel Magnolia’s tagline, “delicate as magnolias, but as tough as steel”, the show will cast six leading women.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to cast strong and amazing women of a range of ages who know what life’s all about, and to allow our audiences to see us shine again – while also having a fabulous time back in the theatre,” Ms Roberts said.
The information night for Steel Magnolias is on Tuesday, June 28, at 7pm at the Blackbox Theatre, 17 Wheeler St, Shepparton.
Auditions are on Saturday, July 2, at the theatre.
People are encouraged to sign up for auditions at the information night or online at www.stagtheatre.com
