La Trobe University is set to welcome the next generation of students for this year, offering places for study through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) main offer round.

The Shepparton campus will welcome Alannah Patafio and Courtney Taylor in March as Vice-Chancellor Scholarship recipients to study accounting and education, respectively.
Ms Patafio said she was looking forward to studying locally.
‘‘I always just really wanted to go here because it was just going to be easier, but I’m not opposed to moving to the city further down the track if need be,’’ she said.
‘‘It’ll be really good because my family is really supportive and I have a good study space at home, so it’ll be easier than living away from home and having to start from scratch.’’
Graduating from Shepparton’s Wanganui Park Secondary College last year, Ms Patafio has already fast-tracked her future career in accounting.
‘‘I had a really good accounting teacher in Years 11 and 12 and I really enjoyed the subject, so I went into the VCE Plus program here (La Trobe University) last year,’’ she said.
Ms Patafio said she would like to one day become a forensic accountant.
‘‘I liked legal studies as well in Year 12, but I didn’t want to do a law degree ... and I wanted to join law and accounting together I guess, so I would be going back through records and then presenting evidence in court,’’ she said.
Also starting at La Trobe University, Ms Taylor said she could see her dream of becoming a teacher transform into a reality.
‘‘I’ve always been interested in education from a young age and it’s been a dream of mine for years,’’ she said.
Wanting to become a primary school teacher, Ms Taylor said she was keeping her options open.
‘‘I have a full-time job at a high school this year as a trainee in education support so the university will hopefully be really flexible with my hours,’’ she said.
‘‘That will require one class a semester, so I’ll be doing year one over two years.’’
La Trobe University vice-chancellor Professor John Dewar said the university would continue to make VTAC offers in subsequent rounds.
‘‘I congratulate our new 2019 students on their offers from La Trobe University. We are delighted to invite you to study at one of Victoria’s oldest and most prestigious universities,’’ Mr Dewar said.
He said while it was still early days, these VTAC offers, when combined with direct applications, postgraduate coursework enrolments and international study, indicated La Trobe qualifications continued to be in strong demand.
