Amnesty International has partnered with the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District to present the conversation starter on March 20 to coincide with Harmony Week.
Guest speakers include two people from the Shepparton region: Kaiela Institute executive chair Paul Briggs and Youth of Colour and Culture co-ordinator Ali Al Battaat.
They will be joined by Australian Human Rights Commission race commissioner Chin Tan and Victorian Multicultural Commission commissioner Dr Judy Tang.
Ethnic Council of Shepparton chief executive Chris Hazelman said attendees would be able to ask questions and get a broad range of ideas from the speakers.
“Chin Tan has expressed his desire in the past to come to Shepparton,” Mr Hazelman said.
“Ali Al Battaat is a good speaker and can provide he thoughts from a young person's perspective.
“Paul Briggs needs no introduction and would have extensive knowledge discussing our First Nations.
“Racism is an important topic to discuss at any given time and it's something that too often rears it head, so we're proud we can present this to conclude Harmony Week.”
The free event is on March 20 at St Paul's African House, 54 Poplar Ave, Shepparton starting at noon.
To book, phone the Ethnic Council of Shepparton on 5831 2395 or email info@ethniccouncil.com.au
Harmony Week runs from March 15 to March 21. It celebrates multiculturalism, diversity and inclusiveness in Australia.
