Shepparton Search and Rescue and Tatura SES were on hand with pre-filled sandbags for all those who needed one.
Mooroopna resident Jenny Fleming said she was getting sandbags in the event of flooding at her home, which is on a floodplain.
“Our house is built where a floodplain is and has been flooded twice, so we are just taking precautions because our house was built before the flood levels were in,” Mrs Fleming said.
Shepparton Search and Rescue president Michael D’Elia urged people to remain patient and said the sandbags were available until 7pm at Kialla Recreation Reserve.
“We want people to remain patient and expect places in Shepparton to flood, such as the Boulevard as a main point of focus,” Mr D’Elia said.
Shepparton’s Jordan’s Bend picnic area was swallowed up by the ever-expanding Goulburn River, with part of the bike path under water, while residents on the Boulevard were preparing themselves for further river rises, with sandbags lining the entry points to their houses.
More rain is expected to hit Shepparton, with the flood risk still high for parts of the Goulburn Valley. A minor flood warning is in place for Shepparton on Friday, which is expected to increase to moderate by Saturday morning and major by Saturday night.
