While Joshua Tran and Eliza Long reigned supreme in the open singles events, the Shepparton Easter Tennis Tournament was about much more than the two marquee competitions.

From 12-and-under juniors to a D-grade social tournament — and everything in between — there was something for everyone at the 95th running of the annual tennis extravaganza.
In the open men’s doubles Shepparton’s Jarrod Bingham and Melbourne’s Matt Findlay found success over the pairing of Tran and Tyler Tranquille in the decider 6-2, 6-4.
Josie New and Carolyn McGann were the open women’s doubles winners, defeating Long and Ashlea Baker 6-3, 7-6, while the open mixed doubles went the way of Macey Ren and Isaac Watson.
Local James Curtis-McDonald breezed through the Mullins Plate men’s singles, dropping just six games in his three matches leading into the final where he defeated Matt Peart 6-1, 7-6.
There was also a Shepparton flavour in the Jewell/Ryan Plate women’s singles when Olivia Quigley took the honours over Jayde Glascott in the final.
The A-grade events went the way of Jack Hartnett (men’s singles), Glascott (women’s singles), Josh Dewhirst and Michael Neylan (men’s doubles), Danijela Mijic and Jack Taylor (mixed doubles) and Ash Andrews and New (women’s doubles).
There were plenty of familiar faces tasting success across the rest of the grades.
The C-grade men’s doubles final was a father-son bonanza, with Paul and Zach Ranson taking the Easter chocolates over Mark and Trent Doyle.
Tony O’Callaghan and Cheryl Cottrell finished runner-up in the D-grade mixed doubles, with Katie Ferguson claiming the over-40 women’s singles and Lisa Niglia and Fleur Nurse the women’s doubles in the same category.
In the junior competitions Zach and Thomas Ranson teamed up in the 15-and-under boys’ doubles to take victory, with the former finishing runner-up in the same category’s boys’ singles.
Euroa’s Alanna Birch claimed the girls’ singles at the same age level over Ella Rohde, with the latter going on to win the girls’ doubles alongside Emily Turcato.
Thomas Ranson’s 12-and-under boys’ singles win also stood out from among the results pack.
