Having not lined up in round three against the Melton Warriors — due to the Warriors forfeiting — the Bulls put any doubts of lack of game time to bed, scoring five tries in the opening half of action.
The Bulls ended up crossing the line for six more tries in the second half, running out 68-28 winners against Melbourne University at Glen Iris’ Nettleton Park Reserve.
The win against Melbourne University lifts the Bulls to the top of the Rugby Victoria Championship.
Outside centre player Sauiluma Onolima-Lulio was a standout for the Bulls, scoring a try and helping set up multiple others in a terrific game according to Bulls coach Mark Stevens.
‘‘Sauiluma Onolima-Lulio gave us some strong runs into space and was our best performer on the day,’’ Stevens said.
‘‘He and Fili Fili linked up really well together and caused a few headaches for their defenders.
‘‘Overall, it was a pretty convincing win from the boys and I thought they all played really well, they’re starting to get a feel for one another now.
‘‘And scoring 68 points is a great effort and they only scored their tries from our mistakes, so there are a few things we need to tidy.’’
Stevens highlighted one moment of the win that showed his side’s already close bond after a month of action.
In the final minute of the game with the result already written in the book, Bulls co-captain Lee-Roy Huthman-Grace passed the conversion kick on goal to incumbent kick-taker Poonokerisiano Tuiletufuga.
‘‘Lee actually gave Poonokerisiano the kick on goal in the final minute of the game,’’ Stevens said.
‘‘He came in and nailed the 45m kick from the edge of the field and now he keeps telling the boys he has a kicking record of 100 per cent for the season.
‘‘All the boys are having fun at the moment and winning games as well which is great.’’
This weekend the Bulls will jump on the bus again for a road trip to Bendigo, as they look to make it four wins in a row.
