Kids today, particularly teenagers, need to listen to their gut and get off social media because it’s not reality. Do everything you can to better yourself and better your life. Work hard.

Listen to your parents. Keep away from drugs and take responsibility for your own mistakes. Time and tide don’t wait for anyone. Time is precious. Every minute lost is a minute wasted.

I’d encourage them to read more and make sure they’re happy with the choice that they make, but they can always change along the way. In the ’50s, when I went to school, you left school, and you were either a nurse, teacher or went into an office. Nowadays, you can make a choice and make a goal. You can go to university or become a tradie.

Younger children should be patient and take life as it comes. Don’t rush into anything and get nervous because when you get nervous, you’ll make mistakes. For older kids: reach for the stars.
