Two state Nationals MPs have joined forces to hear feedback on the Victorian Retirement Villages Act.
Consumer Affairs Shadow Minister Tim McCurdy and state Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe were in Shepparton on Monday to listen to locals’ concerns.
Ms O’Keeffe thanked everyone that made an appointment to meet with Mr McCurdy and herself.
“We had a really productive morning hearing from a wide range of local people who each shared productive feedback on a number of important matters,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“I’d like to thank everyone that came along for sharing their lived experience with us and helping us to understand any concerns they may have, which will help inform the future changes to retirement villages.”
Discussions touched on retirement villages’ entry and exit fees, dispute resolution processes, and a range of matters that needed attention.
“As we know, retirement villages play a substantial part of people’s lives. We want to make sure the process is understood and that locals making the move have the support they need to make an informed decision,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“From our conversations, it is apparent that changes need to be addressed and it is important that the community feels understood raising any issues they may have.”
Mr McCurdy is continuing to meet with people around Victoria to gather input on the Retirement Villages Act.
