Bookings to give blood filled quickly, with only five spots remaining for the week as of Tuesday, August 16.
Red Cross spokesperson Stephanie Reynolds said it was amazing to see how generous the donors of Seymour were.
“Seymour is always a very good town to visit,” she said.
Between 100 and 150 blood donations are expected to be made this visit. Each donation can save three lives, giving this trip to Seymour the potential to help up to 450 people.
Despite the eager uptake in Seymour, this year has brought the challenge of more late cancellations and no-shows at mobile blood donation clinics due to the circulation of colds, the flu and COVID-19.
Broadford resident Lana Woods travelled to Seymour to give blood. This visit was her 10th time giving blood. She said it was her way of giving back to the community.
“It’s not too far to travel actually ... It’s much closer than some of the other ones,” she said.
The mobile blood donation van visits quarterly. People who wish to give blood but do not have an appointment this time around can already book for the van’s next visit, from November 14 to 18.
The van is located in the Woolworths car park on the corner of William and Wallis streets.
The Red Cross encourages everyone who is eligible to book an appointment and take the opportunity to roll up their sleeve.
“Every blood type is crucial, all the time,” Ms Reynolds said.
