Round 3: Ninety four points separated the Wombats and lowly Tallygaroopna as Strapp kicked another five and Nick Ryan proved his worth in the ruck, among the Wombats’ best along with Phil Carroll in defence.
Round 4: Four in a row after 46 goals and a 302-point win against winless Longwood. Sixteen players kicked goals, including full-back Carroll (three majors), as Besim, Sam Vick and Kyle Kidd dominated the Redlegs.
Round 5: Crashing back to earth, a 40-point loss to Shepparton East in spite of Carroll and Nick McAuliffe’s defensive output. The Wombats managed only three goals.
Round 6: Two losses in succession, although only by nine points against top team Avenel. Jake Mills (28 goals for the year) kicked two majors, while Brad Orr was the Wombats’ best.
Round 7: Back on track with a 69-point win against eighth ranked Merrigum. Zac Cerrone played his first game for the team, with Riley O’Neill getting the nod as best afield.
Round 8: The first of two successive losses against top four teams came against Murchison-Toolamba, an 11-point loss. Trailing by just a point at three-quarter-time the Wombats couldn’t make up the lost ground in spite of coach Davies playing his best game of the season.
Round 9: Trailing from start to finish against Stanhope, the Wombats were 44-point losers. Steve Phillips and Coby O’Neill kicked four of the team’s six goals, with Luke Davies ranked as the best player.
Round 10: A 58-point win, against top eight team Nagambie, came on the back of Sam Vick and Jake Mills kicking three goals each. Besim was best-on-ground with another three majors.
Round 11: Charging toward the top four, three final term goals gave the Wombats a 19-point win against Dookie United.
Round 12: A fighting five-point win against Violet Town, on the back of goal-kicking midfielder Zac Cerrone (20 goals in nine games), kept the Wombats momentum. Nick Ryan was again a workhorse in the ruck, while unsung hero Charlie McLay and recruit Cameron Simpson were also good.
Round 13: An 88-point win against Undera with five goals from Sam Vick and four from Cerrone, with Sam Spedding playing his best game of the year.
Round 14: Girgarre kicked just one goal as the Wombats took a 102-point win on the back of another Coby O’Neill best afield performance. Ryan was strong again, pushing forward to kick five goals.
Round 15: Six in a row with a 263-point win against Rushworth, Jake Mills spending more time out of the goal square with 11 majors and Cerrone’s brilliant second half of the year rewarded with seven goals.
Round 16: Eighteen goals to six with a 68 point win against Dookie, recruit Simpson best-on-ground with two goals from the centre and Rikki Busch kicking six after spending much of the first half of the season in the reserves.
