Shepparton residents are invited to take part in Dementia Australia’s largest annual fundraising event, Memory Walk and Jog, which will be held for the first time at Victoria Park Lake on Sunday, May 4.
Participants can choose between a 2.5km or 5km course, walking or running to help ‘beat dementia to the finish line’ while raising funds and increasing awareness of the condition.
The event supports the 1320 people living with dementia in Shepparton and their families, contributing to vital services and research.
Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia and the leading cause of death for Australian women.
“Each event is a fantastic opportunity for people impacted by dementia and their supporters to come together — to walk or run, raise much-needed funds and connect,” a Dementia Australia spokesperson said.
In Victoria alone, more than 107,600 people are living with dementia.
By registering, participants directly contribute to Dementia Australia’s crucial services and pioneering research, bringing the nation one step closer to a future without dementia.
For those unable to attend in person, Dementia Australia offers the MyWay event program, allowing individuals or groups to host their own walk.
