Rotary and Lions Club members joined together with some of their grandchildren to help clean up Yarrawonga Showgrounds, part of Yarrawonga College P-12, Vic Park and the walking track between Tregany Court and Brears Road.
Organiser Ross Lloyd said there was a good turnout, and a lot was done, however he said it was disappointing that each year the event was held, there was plenty of rubbish to collect.
Let’s aim for less litter
The Lions Club of Lake Mulwala’s Clean Up Australia Day team of seven did a great job on Sunday morning.
The Lions Club of Lake Mulwala’s Clean Up Australia Day team of seven did a great job on Sunday morning, though they were also horrified to see how much litter there was.
Club members collected plastic, cardboard, waxed coffee and cold drink cups, a lot of packaging and old clothing and pillows.
Fortunately, the 10c rebate on cans and bottles has reduced those items.
Just some of the Lions Club of Lake Mulwala ladies who worked hard to clean between Tregany Court and Brears Road.
The club registered to clean along 2 km of the walking track to the west of town between Tregany Court and Brears Road, including the truck stop opposite Brears.
The group that started at the truck stop took almost an hour just at that location.
They said it was disappointing to find black garbage bags full of household waste dumped.
Thanks to Yarrawonga Mulwala Rotary for helping to dispose of the waste collected.
Let's hope that the public stops trashing the country and Clean Up Australia Day becomes unnecessary in the future.
