As well as the usual displays of army Jeeps, tanks, armoured vehicles and uniforms from World War I and II, enthusiasts can expect equipment demonstrations and a Living History display of Soviet, German, British and Australian army camps from the era.
Co-organiser Sol Sutherland said there had been lots of interest in the latest Australian army vehicles to come on the market as Land Rovers were replaced with newer Mercedes G-Wagons.
“We're seeing the last of the Land Rover Perentie models and we expect a few of these to be here for the rally,” Mr Sutherland said.
He said people could also expect armoured Ferret vehicles, Universal Bren Gun Carriers from World War II, Australian International trucks, British-made Austin Champ amphibious vehicles, and a display of military pushbikes from World War I.
He said Northern Victorian Arms Collectors Guild members would conduct blank firing demonstrations of muzzle-loaded and centrefire firearms.
Mr Sutherland said the two-day event, supported by the Victorian Military History Group, drew enthusiasts from as far as Adelaide and Sydney.
“This is our 10th year now and we find a lot of returned servicemen enjoy the chance to reflect on their years of service. Some of them feel very emotionally attached to the vehicles they spent so much time in,” he said.
The 10th annual Dookie Military History Rally will take place in Dookie's main street and the park near the fire station on Saturday and Sunday, October 12 and 13. Mr Sutherland said the main day of activities would be the Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
