Rochester came alive on Saturday morning as car enthusiasts revved into town for the Rochester Show and Shine.

About 3400 people gathered at the Rochester Racecourse Recreation Reserve to catch a glimpse of almost 400 vehicles of all shapes, sizes and colours from around Australia.

According to Rochester Motoring Club president Merv Wild, the day was well received.

“We’re all really happy with how things went ... we haven’t had any negative feedback,” he said.

“We didn’t expect it to go so well, but we were hoping.”

Despite the rain the day before, it was blue skies and sunshine on the day of the show.

It was a great event too for those who attended purely as a day out, with plenty of market stalls to peruse and food trucks to keep the hunger pangs at bay.

Live music by Jefferson Smith also kept spirits high throughout the day with a range of 60s and 70s music to fit the vintage feel of the day.

Michael Powell, an enthusiast from Melbourne, said the day was well supported and he was delighted to have won an award for his custom-built 1998 Harley Davidson.

“There has been many great cars and bikes here today. It’s been a really great show and shine today and well supported by the bike community and the car community ... they’ve come out in force today,” he said.

“I even got an award. It was totally unexpected. I was looking at other people’s cars and things and came back and was surprised to have an award.”

A group of judges wandered through the endless rows of vehicles and chose a select few vehicles for awards.
