The local Rivers’ store is one of 136 that will soon close, impacting a total of about 650 employees.
Rivers moved into the store in Cressy St following the closure in 2020 of Target.
Its future has been in doubt since the Mosaic Brands Group went into receivership in October last year.
In a statement released on Friday, the Receivers and Managers announced “the closure of the Rivers brand and stores”.
“Despite the best efforts of the Mosaic Brands Group team, the Receivers (KPMG) and Voluntary Administrators (FTI Consulting), a sale of the Rivers business has not been achieved. As a consequence, all remaining Rivers stores will close by mid-April 2025,” the statement said.
There has been no date given for the closure of Rivers in Deniliquin.
The statement continued: “The Receivers have made the difficult decision to wind down this iconic Australian brand” and “would like to thank the Mosaic and Rivers employees who have all worked tirelessly during this difficult period”.
The building’s owner, Lester Wheatley, was last week unsure when the store would be vacated.
However, he has regularly committed to doing everything possible to ensure a suitable tenant for the building.
At the time of Target vacating, he was always confident this would be achieved, as it is “a large shop in a prime location.
‘‘It is ideal for a new business to open or a fantastic opportunity for an existing business to expand,” Mr Wheatley said.
He has been a strong advocate for shopping locally, to help ensure businesses that are established in Deniliquin remain viable.
