Kyabram Lions Club crowned its two new poetry champions at the Around the Campfire event late last month.

Strathfieldsaye poet David Judge was honoured with the Herb McCrum Poetry Award and Mooroopna’s Baden Howe won the Johnny Johanson Yarnspinning Award.
The competition returned this year after a COVID-19 absence and despite a shift to a Sunday afternoon the crowd at Kyabram Club was large.
Those in attendance were also treated to a performance from Vika Yarygin, with her prize-winning poem The Murray River Flow, which was the victor of the Betty Olle Award.
David Judge also performed his second-placed poem from that competition, titled The Spirit of the Outback.
Spinning a yarn: Baden Howe’s name was added to the list of winners in the Johnny Johanson Yarnspinning award.
