Representing his association in Northern Rivers Junior Country Week in the under-13A competition, Shepparton United's Ash Young ripped through Bendigo's middle order in a stunning display of bowling.
Young claimed four wickets in four deliveries to snare a double hat-trick at Congupna Recreation Reserve, sending the opposition reeling from 4-116 to 8-116 in the blink of an eye and finishing with figures of 5-17.
Bendigo recovered to eventually win the clash, but Young's efforts remained a highlight of the contest.
“They were all pretty excited, but they stayed pretty focused on trying to get the win,” Young's stepfather Travis Frost said.
“The team environment was great, they're all such great kids and got around Ash, but even he was probably more worried about trying to win the game.”
Old Students’ Noah Muir was the only other player involved in the four wickets, snaring the caught-behind chances from the first and last balls of the achievement.
Young took it upon himself to do the rest of the work, making a mess of the stumps for the second and hat-trick deliveries.
It was just another chapter in a sterling summer for Young, who made his debut for Victoria and Northern Rivers and stepped into his second representative campaign with his local association.
“It has been a big four months or so for him,” Frost said.
“He's probably a bit tired, but he's ready to go again for Northern Rivers next week.”
