After a 13-week backlog to obtain a liquor license, The Caledonian Hotel in Murchison was forced to delay its bar opening.

However, after a conversation with State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland, a temporary liquor license has been obtained, and the bar is now open.
Hotel lessee and manager Sandra Reece is encouraging everyone to grab their mates and shout a round.
“Beer o’clock is finally back at the Caledonian in Murchison,” Mrs Reece said.
“Come down, have a cold beer or wine, and check out all the changes. The place looks incredible.
“Huge thanks to Annabelle; it’s all because of her that this has become possible. We are so thankful that we can finally open our bar.”
After Mrs Reece raised the liquor license issue with Ms Cleeland last week, discussions between the local member, the state’s police minister and liquor regulation minister resolved the issue in a few days.
Ms Cleeland said it was distressing to hear of Mrs Reece’s anxieties that she was opening a bar in a pub with no beer because of the delay in getting a liquor license.
“It’s a proud moment when you can directly advocate for local businesses and members of the community that are just trying to succeed,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Attracting businesses to our smaller communities is critical for a vibrant local economy and job opportunities in town. The government needs to support businesses, not suppress them.”
Over the past year, the hotel has undertaken a complete transformation on the inside and is now not only serving alcohol but also offering accommodation and an extensive selection of pub meals.
“It’s been our dream to make this happen again for the town and others coming into Murchison,” Mrs Reece said.
“The hard work has paid off, and it’s so lovely to have it feel like a pub again.
“It’s warm, almost Christmas; come for a nice cold drink and a meal.
