Quiet night for emergency services despite storms

A Powercor spokesperson said just under 3000 customers around Echuca and Rochester experienced a momentary power outage around 1am on Wednesday.

It is suspected lightning caused the outage, which was restored within a minute by Powercor’s automated systems, the spokesperson said.

Residents reported longer outages in Echuca’s west from around 8.40pm on Tuesday, including at Stratton Rd, Matheson Rd and Crofton St.

Despite storms sweeping through the region, all local emergency services said they had a surprisingly quiet night.

A VICSES Echuca Unit spokesperson said they did not receive any calls for assistance, as did a NSWSES spokesperson on behalf of the Moama unit.

A tree was downed next to Campaspe Bridge, but did not interfere with traffic.

Both Echuca CFA and Moama Fire and Rescue NSW spokespeople also said they had not attended any weather-related emergencies in the past week or so.
