PubSing is a popular feature of Castlemaine’s music and social calendar and the group behind the innovative community engagement initiative would like to share the fun with Rochy residents.
The concept enables anyone who would like to be involved to take part. There is no experience or minimum level of singing talent required.
PubSing sees a well-known and loved song broken into harmony parts and over the space of a couple of hours, groups work under instruction to learn the respective parts before a final “performance”.
It is all about having fun in a relaxed environment and Shamrock Hotel publican Ian Crouch is looking forward to the day.
“We’d love to see the front bar full,” he said.
“This is an event for all of Rochy to get together, have a few quiet Sunday afternoon drinks and be part of something a bit unique.
“We were rapt to be asked to be involved because we think it’s just the kind of thing the town needs as we work our way through recovery.”
PubSing Castlemaine has been running community singing events in central Victoria since 2019.
Co-ordinator Marion Yates said the group’s mission was to bring people of all walks of life together in their local communities, to share some joy and connection through singing together.
“PubSing is a very welcoming, inclusive event. We pride ourselves on making sure everyone feels relaxed and at home,” she said.
“One of our favourite things to witness is people who are sure they ‘can’t sing’ getting swept up in the fun and singing their hearts out with everyone. Our mantra is: sing like no-one is listening – together!”
PubSing will be held at the Shamrock Hotel on Sunday, July 30, from 2pm to 4.30pm and is being made possible with the support of PubSing Castlemaine, the Anglicare Flood Recovery Program and Rochester Community House.
The chosen song is John Farnham’s iconic Australian anthem You’re The Voice.
The event itself is free and drinks will be available at bar prices.
